Mayuko Obuchi, born in Kyoto/Japan, completed her piano studies at the Kyoto University of Arts, University of Music and Theatre Munich and Mozarteum University Salzburg with Claudio Soares, Chiharu Sakai, Irina Mejoueva, Thomas Böckheler and Jacques Rouvier, among others. She also studied lied interpretation with Helmut Deutsch in Munich and chamber music with Stefan Mendl at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She was also a DAAD scholarship holder.
Mayuko Obuchi is 1st prize winner of the Sakai International Piano Competition and the International Anton Rubinstein Competition Düsseldorf. She also won 1st prize at the "Musikpreis Kulturkreis Gasteig" competition in the Lied duo with Katharina Konradi and 2nd prize at the International Johannes Brahms Competition Pörtschach in chamber music. She was also honoured as "The Singer at the Piano" by KS Brigitte Fassbaender at the Richard Strauss Competition in Munich.
She has performed at the Salzburg Festival, the Ravel Festival in Bayonne, the Richard Strauss Festival, the Bavarian State Opera and the Stadttheater Baden.
Mayuko Obuchi regularly worked as a répétiteur with KS Brigitte Fassbaender, at the Bavarian State Opera and at the International Summer Academy Mozarteum. From 2017 to 2019, she was a lecturer at the University of Music and Theatre Munich and from 2021 to 2024 she worked as a pianist at the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera. Since October 2023, she is a Senior Artist at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
