The focus of this keynote lecture is on a comprehensive approach to music-making, including aspects such as health, physicality and nutrition. Inspired by findings from various disciplines, including sports science, the lecture offers concrete insights and practical approaches. 

How can a conscious connection between physical health and music contribute to a harmonious and sustainable musical practice and how can knowledge from other disciplines enrich and support us in our work on the instrument? Thomas Weiss will address these questions with you!

Warm-up - energy kick in the morning 

This morning impulse is the ideal preparation to start the day with vitality and power. Physical activation, targeted bodywork and a focus on body awareness prepare you optimally for working on your instrument during the day. 

Workshop "Train your Play"

In this workshop, you will work together to deepen and practically apply the topics from the keynote speech: promoting physical health, targeted planning for musicians with regard to muscular strain and developing improved body awareness.

Personal coaching (in groups of 3)

In the small group coaching sessions, the focus is on the physical and mental level of performance training. With the help of short video sequences, we reflect on performances in order to facilitate targeted progress. By reflecting on and discussing various practice strategies, we develop practical solutions. These coaching sessions not only offer the opportunity to optimize musical skills, but also for individual holistic development.

Dozent

Thomas Weiss, bass trombonist in the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, completed his instrumental studies at the Mozarteum Salzburg, the Innsbruck Conservatory and the Bruckner Private University Linz. In addition to his musical expertise, he holds a bachelor's degree in communications. His training at the Vienna Academy of Economics includes nutrition, fitness, mental training, rhetoric and organisation. Thanks to this broad education, he combines not only musical skills, but also an understanding of the physical and mental levels of musical performance.
