Born in Tokyo, she studied at the Yamaha Music School for twelve years (piano and composition). She continued her studies in the piano soloist class at the Tokyo College of Music with Yuko Sekine and Atsuko Okada, as well as chamber music with Eisuke Tsuchida, graduating with a master's degree in 2010.

From 2009, she studied piano and chamber music with Prof. Avedis Kouyoumdjian at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, graduating in 2015 with unanimous honors. Since 2015, she has also performed regularly in baroque concerts with strings and singers, on piano and harpsichord with Ensemble Felicia, and recordings have followed.

From 2016 to 2018, she worked as a lecturer in Japan, supervising over 150 students in piano, composition and voice training at Japan Women's University and Wayo Women's University.

Yuumi Yamaguchi is the winner of several national competitions in Japan. In 2010 she won the ISA Förderpreis for piano at the 20th International Summer Academy PragueViennaBudapest and in 2011 she won 3rd prize at the 18th International Johannes Brahms Competition (piano). She has also written commissioned works for choirs, for which she was awarded the Composition Prize by Japan Women's University in 2013, and a 100th anniversary work.

In 2016, Yamaguchi made her CD debut with, among other pieces, Schumann's Carnaval and one of her own compositions. The recording was selected as the recording of the month for October by the renowned Japanese music magazine “Record geijutsu”. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Austria (including at the Musikverein, Konzerthaus, Leopold Museum and Schuberthaus), Italy, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Japan, and also played at the hour of remembrance for Japanese earthquake victims in the Austrian Parliament. She regularly plays concerts at St. Peter's Church in Vienna as part of the “Mozart Piano Sonatas” , “Clair de Lune” and “Nocturne” cycles since 2011.

Yamaguchi has been a répétiteur at the Anton Bruckner Institute at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since October 2022.
